Educational and Professional Experience: 

Pediatric ENT specializing in airway surgery and Vice President, Medical Director of Level Ex, Inc.  Holds a Master of Medical Science in Medical Education degree with a focus on educational technology from Harvard Medical School and a Master of Science in Physiology and Biophysics from Georgetown University. Previous Clinical Instructor at Harvard Medical School and Assistant Professor at UT Southwestern.  Current Assistant Professor at Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine. As Medical Director of Level Ex (@LevelExTeam) provides clinical oversight for all its video games used by healthcare professionals. Work closely with partners from medical societies to industry to develop innovative educational programs using the company's mobile, AR and VR experiences, leading efficacy studies to measure physician performance, and working with Level Ex's team of 100+ physician advisors to conduct needs assessments and expand into new specialties.

Scholarly Interests: 

Scholarly interests in professional development and proper implementation of educational technologies in healthcare education.  Master's thesis was on motivational theory and online learning in medical students.  Speaks nationally through invited lectureships and workshops on the cognitive psychology of learning and how to bring theory into practice, especially in surgical education.  Also studies the role of Growth Mindset, Grit, and Motivation on burnout in medical students.  Has an interest in quality improvement and co-led a QI initiative around children with tracheostomies while in Dallas.

Personal Background:

Grew up in Chicago as the son of a Chicago Public School teacher and a benefits administrator. Did residency in Cincinnati, Ohio and fellowship in Boston, Massachusetts. Lived in Boston for additional year while working at Boston Children's Hospital and working on his master's degree.  Moved to Dallas, Texas to work at Children's Medical Center Dallas and UT-Southwestern for 2.5 years.  Currently working and living in Chicago.
